Hardware
As part of Rocio Lopez's final year dissertation, various pieces of hardware have been installed in the West Whins mini-district to allow for monitoring of energy consumption through Emoncms.
Energy Centre
An Emonpi is installed in the Energy Centre to gather the M-Bus .
Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP)
A pulse sensor is installed on the HP electricity meter with data collected by the Emonpi System.
Domestic Hot Water (DHW) tank
Five thermocouples are placed inside the hot water thermal store at equally spaced heights as can be seen in the Figure 1. Three temperature sensors are installed at the top, middle and bottom thermocouple points with data collected by the Emonpi System. This helps to establish operating and model calibration data for the system.

Space heating demand
Each flat has a thermostat and programmer where the users can personally set space heating on/off times and temperatures. The data gathered allows performance monitoring which is later used for billing for space heating used by each flat. This is monitored utilising direct heat meters on the supply for each individual household.
DHW supply
Flow meters and a conversion based on nominal ΔT of 43 °C are used here (nominal flow temperature 55 °C and cold-water input at 12 °C).
